Member of the Month - May 2026

Dear Tomasz,

We would like to congratulate you on being named Member of the Month. You have been with us at the box for almost exactly four years. Your positive attitude and the good vibes you bring every day make you an invaluable part of our community and a true asset to our box.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?

When something really interests me, I can get completely absorbed in it for a really long time. I guess I’m also built for endurance. 10 hours on the bike still feels easier to me than 1 hour of CrossFit :)

Is there anything about you that most people don't know?

I speak Finnish, and my kids (ages 10 and 12) were both born in Helsinki.

What was your dream job when you were a kid, and what are you actually doing today?

I remember getting my hands on an Intel i386 PC when I was about 12 years old. After that, I knew I wanted to work with computers. And here I am, doing exactly that. I’m currently an IT manager in the pharmaceutical industry, and I still often have the chance to get hands-on experience with new technology.

How do you get motivated to tackle a difficult task?

Like most people, I break the task down into smaller chunks and tackle them one by one. Here’s a small success story along those lines: When I started CrossFit, I couldn’t do a single pull-up; now I can do 10 strict ones.

How and when did you start your CrossFit journey?

I work literally right next door. So I just gave it a try four years ago. Honestly, at first I just did it to stay in shape. Later, I got hooked because of the great community and the motivation I got from the progress I made over time.

How does CrossFit influence the rest of your life?

My core and back have gotten stronger. I can feel the improvements on long bike rides or when carrying a heavy backpack. I have more energy during the day and need less sleep than I used to.

Do you do any other sports besides CrossFit? If so, what do you do?

I go mountain biking with a local club. During the summer, we usually go on at least one long ride every weekend. There are many trails on my local hill, Irchel. Mountain biking is mainly an endurance sport and a great complement to CrossFit.

Do you remember your favorite moment in our box?

It was wonderful to do CrossFit in the sunshine on the rooftop while the current gym was being rebuilt. Longtime members will remember.

Is there anything you'd like to share with fellow members or potential new members?

To new members: Stay consistent and learn more about nutrition.

Consistency: Set your own ambitious but realistic goals, and just keep showing up. If you stay consistent, progress will come naturally.

Food: Especially once you hit your 40s (I’m 44), paying attention to how food affects you becomes more important. I ask myself simple questions like: Which foods make me crave sugar later on? What gives me the most energy before a workout? Which meals leave me feeling bloated? Am I getting enough healthy fats and protein today?

Small observations like these have helped me feel much better and perform better. If any of my answers resonate with you, feel free to come talk to me anytime—I’d love to hear what works for you, too!
